Green Cup Challenge: Fall Break

October 18th, 2010 | by rhanley

We hope everyone unplugged everything in your rooms on campus & we hope that everyone’s gonna be GREEN even when they’re away from NMH !

Tips for the weekend”

~Turn off the lights every time you don’t need them in your room, your bathroom, your friends room, your kitchen, your dining room, your basement, etc..
~Shower for a smaller amount of time; someone else needs that water more than your hair does..
~Only do your laundry when its really dirty. You only wore that shirt once.  You can barely see that stain.
~CAR-POOL !! You need to get into Boston?! Me too! Let’s take one car instead of two.
~Turn off your computer when you’re not using it. Facebook, Skype, and Twitter will still all be there in the morning.

STAY EFFICIENT NMH
-From all your friendly neighborhood GCC reps.

Green Cup 2.0 Begins!

October 11th, 2010 | by rhanley

The Green Cup Challenge is underway! The battle begins, and Rikert emerges as the clear leader after day one (with a mind-blowing 21 percent decrease in electricity consumption).  Mackinnon follows close behind (way to be, Mack!), followed by Cottage 1.  The rest of the dorms demonstrated an increase in electricity consumption over baseline levels (probably due to the fact that day one was a weekend day), but 27 days remain in the competition– it’s anyone’s game…

Remember:

  • Turn out those lights!
  • Plug all computers and musical equipment, etc, into powerstrips and turn off powerstrips when you can!
  • Fill your dorm fridge (if it doesn’t have food, use bottles of tap water)!
  • It takes 714 pounds of coal to produce the energy to run one 100 watt lightbulb for one year…
